Motorcyclist killed in Big Island crash is identified

Big Island police identified today a 31-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash Friday as Brett H. Seltmann of Kailua-Kona.

Police said Seltmann was speeding and lost control of his motorcycle just before 2 p.m. Friday when it crashed two-tenths of a mile west of the 37-mile marker on Palani Road in Kailua-Kona.

Seltmann was operating a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle and heading east on Palani when he ran off the right side of the road and crashed, police said.

Fire rescue personnel transported him to the Kona Community Hospital, where he died 3:37 p.m. Friday.

This is the fifth Big Island traffic fatality this year compared to six the same time last year.

Police are awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the case to call officer Joshua Lewis at 326-4646, extension 229.
