Gov. Neil Abercrombie has released the list of donors that provided $671,935 for his inaugural festivities in December.

The largest donation — $30,000 — came from Mitsunaga & Associates, an architectural, engineering and construction firm. Dennis Mitsunaga and others associated with the firm were also major donors to Abercrombie’s campaign for governor. The second largest donation — $15,000 — came from Kapolei Property Development.

Alexander & Baldwin contributed $10,700. Several other major firms gave $10,000, including Bank of Hawaii, Castle & Cooke, Hawaiian Electric Co., Hawaiian Airlines, HMSA, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, KYA Design Group, the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Outrigger Enterprises, R.M. Towill Corp., Stanford Carr Development, Sheet Metal Workers International Association, the Gas Co., the United Association of Plumbers and Fitters, the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly and Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing.

The governor’s staff released the list publicly after news media inquiries. The governor was not required by state law to disclose the donations.

"Donations were used to pay for these inaugural and transition expenses to avoid spending additional taxpayer dollars since the state of Hawaii does not have a special fund for inauguration," Donalyn Dela Cruz, the governor’s spokeswoman, said in a statement.

Dela Cruz said any proceeds remaining after inaugural expenses will be donated to the statewide Hawaiian Humane societies, Meals on Wheels, and other groups.
