Farrington tops Pahoa for Division II basketball title
Top-seeded Farrington defeated No. 2 seed Pahoa 58-45 in the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships title game tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Governors (18-1) of the Oahu Interscholastic Association won the Division II state crown for the second time in four years. Pahoa (11-7) was attempting to become the first Division II repeat champion but faced a significant size disadvantage.
Lancelot Williams led the Govs with 14 points, while J.P. Saycon added 10, including a thunderous fast-break dunk near the end of the first half.
Pahoa (11-7), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, was led by Nicklas Fisher, who put in 23 points.
The Daggers trailed 19-5 after the first quarter, but hung around in the second and third periods and narrowed the Govs lead to 38-32 with a 3-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter. But Farrington answered with a 12-0 run and led by double figures the rest of the way.
