Events celebrate new seventh hole
The Makaha Resort and Golf Club will open its newly redesigned seventh hole on March 7 with a $7 greens fee to play the 18-hole championship course.
The club’s par-4 seventh hole was closed in December 2008 after it was damaged by flooding. It was replaced temporarily by a par-3 hole.
The 18-hole championship course also will be debuting the half-million-dollar renovation of its golf facilities, which includes an improved pro shop, new golf carts and driving range upgrades, among others.
Reservations for tee times on March 7 will be accepted by phone only beginning Feb. 28. Also planned that day are a putting contest, a prize for the longest drive on the seventh hole and musical entertainment. The resort will charge a $47 room rate on March 6 and 7.

Food donations net free breakfast
Guests of the Ala Moana Hotel who make a donation to the Hawaii Foodbank receive a free buffet breakfast at the hotel’s Plantation Cafe through April 3.
The hotel will give out one coupon per room when the donations are made, and guests may donate food on multiple days. Only canned goods or nonperishable food in unopened bags, such as rice, can be accepted.
"In 2011, thousands of island families are still struggling with hunger, including 55,000 children," said Polly Kauahi, Hawaii Foodbank’s director of development, in a news release.
The Foodbank distributed food to more than 183,000 Hawaii residents last year.
