Big Island police look for witnesses of bus passenger robbery

Big Island police are looking for witnesses who saw a Hele-On bus rider robbed shortly after getting off the bus Wednesday morning.

Police said a 35-year-old Kailua-Kona man reported he got off a southbound bus in Kailua-Kona at 10:30 a.m. on Hawaii Belt Road just north of Haukapila Street.

Three men reportedly followed him off the bus, pushed him to the ground, stole his backpack and fled on foot, police said.

Police said the backpack contained hashish.

The man suffered abrasions to his leg during the struggle, police said.
