Hang glider crash leaves man in serious condition
A male hang glider was in serious condition following a crash above the residential area at the end of Kalama Valley Saturday.
The hang glider came out of a cloud and misjudged his elevation, forcing him into a "semi-controlled crash landing" about 200 feet beyond the last homes in Kalama Valley, Honolulu fire Capt. Robert Main said.
When firefighters got to the man, he was alert but complaining of pain and was unable to walk out of the valley on his own, Main said.
Firefighters carried the man in a Stokes basket to the end of Kalama Valley, where paramedics were waiting, Main said.
Paramedics then took him to a trauma center in serious condition, said James Ireland, director of the city’s Department of Emergency Services.
Ireland did not know the man’s age.
