Investigators unable to find cause of Alewa Heights fire

Fire investigators were unable to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed one abandoned home and damaged three other buildings  in Alewa Heights leaving 12 people from three different families without a home.

Due to the complete destruction of the abandoned structure that burned at 2304 Iholena St. on Feb. 24, fire investigators were unable to determine an area of origin or cause of the fire.

The undetermined classification of a fire means that the fire investigator analyzed all possible causes of the fire but there is insufficient information to identify any one specific cause, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Fire Department spokesman.

He said the undetermined classification of a fire also means that the investigation is now closed but can be reopened if there were introduction or discovery of new information about the fire.

Damage to the abandoned home was estimated at $300,000 and $110,000 to the other three homes. There were no injuries.
