School employee hit by tractor

A state Department of Education worker was seriously injured yesterday when he was struck by the tractor he had just stopped operating at a Kalihi school.

Officials said the 49-year-old man was hurt about 2:25 p.m. along a driveway at Kaewai Elementary School on Kamehameha IV Road.

The man was alert when he was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

The education department is investigating the incident, a department spokeswoman said.

Drinking session ends in stabbing

A man was critically injured in Salt Lake Tuesday night when a drinking partner allegedly stabbed him.

The victim, who was stabbed several times in his chest and stomach, was taken to the hospital, according to dispatch reports by paramedics.

Officers arrested a 51-year-old man at the scene. He was still in custody yesterday.

Police said the stabbing began with two men drinking in the driveway at 3844 Salt Lake Blvd., between Wanaka and Maluna streets, about 9 p.m.

Paramedics took the 35-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition, a spokesman for the Emergency Medical Services said.

Police opened an attempted murder case.
