Soldier in Schofield Barracks shooting dies of self-inflicted gun shot
An Army soldier died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself or herself in a vehicle on Schofield Barracks last night, the Army said today.
Lt. Col. Matt Garner said the soldier’s identity cannot be released until 24 hours after next of kin is notified. Garner today declined to release any other information about the soldier, including sex, rank, age or hometown.
Around 5:30 p.m. last night, military police cordoned off an area of Schofield Barracks in response to a report that a soldier was brandishing a weapon on base, Garner said.
Following the self-inflicted gunshot, the soldier was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he or she died, Garner said.
