UH baseball: Lions salvage series split

John Lally threw eight innings of one-run ball to help LMU silence Hawaii 4-1 to earn a split of the four-game series at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.

Hawaii junior Zack Swasey singled in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. UH loaded the bases with one out, but Lions closer Ryan Hawthorne got AJ Bayus to pop out and struck out Michael Blake to end today’s game.

LMU (9-4) salvaged a split of the series, dropping UH (5-6) below .500.

Lally allowed three hits and one walk and left after hitting Kolten Wong with a pitch to start the ninth.

The save was Hawthorne’s fifth this season.

Swasey drew a one-out walk in the first and scored on a Jeff Van Doornum groundout for UH’s only run.

Sean Montplaisir doubled for one of Hawaii’s four hits. UH’s 5-9 batters hit a combined 0-for-15.

Hawaii wraps up its opening road trip of the season with a single game tomorrow at Long Beach State at 4:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on KKEA 1420-AM.
