The Big Island is under a flood advisory until 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Radar showed heavy rain just before 5 p.m. near Kawa Flats, an area prone to flooding about 46 miles southeast of Kailua-Kona.

Other areas possibly affected are Wood Valley, Punaluu, Punaluu Beach and Pahala, the agency said.

The weather services advised residents to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas.
