CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif.>>Hawaii’s Michelle Wie closed the Kia Classic by shooting a 3-under-par 70 today at Industry Hills Golf Club, outside of Los Angeles. Wie tied for seventh at 8-under 284, giving her two Top-10 finishes in three LPGA Tour starts this year.

German Sandra Gal got her first LPGA win with birdie on the final hole. Gal shot 71 to finish at 16-under 276, a shot ahead of Jiyai Shin (73).

Wie went into the final round 10 shots behind Shin. The Punahou graduate birdied three of the first seven holes and added another on the 11th to get to 9 under.

At that stage she was among the top five and six back of the leaders. She had her only bogey of the day on the next hole and could get no closer.

Wie, who finished finals at Stanford just before coming south, plays the first major of the year next. The Kraft Nabisco Championship starts Thursday in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Wie finished in the Top 15 her first four years at Kraft.
