Big Island police said they are searching for a 50-year-old Mountain View man wanted for allegedly stabbing a 46-year-old Volcano man in Kurtistown on Friday.
About 1:20 p.m. Friday, police and fire rescue personnel responded to a report of an assault victim at the Kurtistown Park off of Highway 11. The victim sustained a stab wound to his chest, police said.
He was transported to the Hilo Medical Center by medics and was initially listed in serious condition, police said. He was upgraded to stable condition following surgery.
Police are asking for help in locating Richard Broyles, for the investigation, classified as an attempted murder.
Broyles is described as about 6-feet 2-inches tall, weighing about 275 pounds. He is also known as "Rick." He was last seen leaving the scene operating a light colored 1999 Plymouth Voyager van bearing license plate KAC-934 and headed in the Volcano direction on Highway 11.
Police are cautioning the public from approaching Broyles who is considered dangerous and instead to call police.
