Search for bodysurfer fruitless

Search and rescue crews from the Honolulu Fire Department and the Coast Guard ended a second full day of searching yesterday without finding missing bodysurfer Lance Kaowili, 49, of Kalama Valley.

Kaowili was last seen Thursday wearing black board shorts and swim fins at Sandy Beach.

Rescue personnel conducted air and land searches yesterday for the second consecutive day.

HFD Capt. Robert Main said fire officials were reviewing information and would decide whether to resume a full search this morning.

Man jailed over minor’s isle visit

Police arrested a 19-year-old man Friday for allegedly bringing a 15-year-old Wisconsin girl to Hawaii for spring break without her parents’ permission.

Police said the suspect, who gave a 10th Avenue address, was with the girl in Hawaii from Wednesday until Friday. He was arrested in Waikiki and faces charges of second-degree custodial interference.

Update: Police later confirmed that the case has been closed and no charges were filed against the suspect, who is from Wisconsin, not a 10th Avenue address as was originally reported.
