Kamehameha Highway open after water mains repaired
Two water mains on Kamehameha Highway — one a 12-inch pipe and the other a 6-incher — were repaired today and the both directions of the roadway was reopened about 8 p.m.
The 12-inch main break occurred about 5:30 a.m., causing problems for both water customers and traffic flow in the area. It was fixed about 3 p.m. and water service was restored to affected customers, but a 6-inch water main broke two miles away at 49-480 Kamehameha Highway, forcing police to contraflow traffic in the area until that was fixed.
Crews installed a spigot on a nearby hydrant to provide water for the 8 homes without water service.
