A teenager is in guarded condition after he was run over by a police vehicle early this morning.

Shortly before 2:48 a.m., a 37-year-old police officer on special duty was sent to Kupuohi Neighborhood Park in Kunia to investigate reports of loud talking and laughing in the area.

When the police officer arrived, he saw about 20 people in the middle of the park. Police said as the officer drove his vehicle down a terrace, he ran over the teenager, who was lying down on the ground.

Police said the teenager, whose age and address are unknown at this time, was wearing dark clothing, and lighting in the area was poor. Police allege that it is “highly suspected” that the teenager was drunk and passed out. Investigators ruled out speed, drugs and alcohol for the officer.

The teenager was sent to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he is in guarded condition.
