Police officer drives over teenager

A teenager was in guarded condition after he was run over by a police vehicle early yesterday morning.

Shortly before 2:48 a.m., a police officer on special duty was sent to Kupuohi Neighborhood Park in Kunia to investigate reports of loud talking and laughing in the area.

When the police officer arrived, he saw about 20 people in the middle of the park. Police said that as the officer drove his vehicle in the park, he ran over the teenager, who was lying on the ground.

Police said the teenager, whose age and address were not immediately known, was wearing dark clothing and that the lighting in the area was poor. Police allege that it is “highly suspected” that the teenager was drunk and passed out. Investigators ruled out speed, drugs and alcohol on the part of the officer.

The teenager was sent to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he remained in guarded condition.
