A combination of swells has prompted a high surf advisory for north and east facing shores of Kauai and Oahu and for north facing shores of Niihau.

The National Weather Service says surf will be 10 to 15 feet on the north shore and 6 to 8 feet on east shores, locally higher in areas exposed to the north swell.

The surf is expected to peak today and gradually lower tonight through Wednesday.

The advisory was posted at about 6:45 a.m. and continues until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

The surf from different directions could make for hazardous conditions and strong rip currents.

Forecasters say the main energy of the swell is focused over the western islands and surf in Maui County and the Big Island should be below advisory levels.
