"TANGOEXTRAVAGANZA!" SELLS OUT | 1. Mariko Lyons, third from left, and Margo Bourland, with lei, went backstage at intermission to congratulate the principals of "Tango Extravaganza!" — Alfredo Minetti (piano), left, Ignace "Iggy" Jang (violin), world champion tango dancers Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo (with their son Nicolas Merlo) and Grammy Award-winner Raul Jaurena (bandoneon) — April 2 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. A sold-out crowd enjoyed almost two hours of tango music and the precise dramatic dancing of Ghi and Merlo. Jang was producer/promoter of the show; Lyons and Bourland provided accommodations and rehearsal space for the visiting performers.

"HOLIDAY" PO'OKELA-WORTHY AT KUMU KAHUA | 4. Playwright Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl talked with cast members Tony Nickelsen (Somerset Maugham), left, and Tyler Tanabe (Gerald Haxton) at the opening-night reception for her new play, "The Holiday of Rain," March 24 at Kumu Kahua. Kneubuhl deserves a Po'okela Award for her career-best work but since Kumu Kahua refuses to participate in the "Pokies," it's an honor she will be denied.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS | 3. Capt. Nicolas Pitrat, left, welcomed Honorary French Consul Patricia Lee and U.S. Navy Cmdr. Joseph M. Keenan Jr. to a sunset reception aboard the French frigate Prairial April 1 at Aloha Tower. The Prairial is visiting Hawaii from its home port in French Polynesia. Keenan's ship, USS Crommelin, hosted the Prairial and its crew during their stay here.

"DANGEREUSES" AT HPU | 2. Cast members Reb Beau Allen (Valmont) and Ingrid Hagen-Keith (Cecile) celebrated the opening of Hawaii Pacific University's spring production of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" at the post-show reception April 1. Allen and Hagen-Keith share a pivotal, sexually charged scene in this classic French tale of sex, seduction and betrayal.
