Hawaii CC announces chancellor finalists

Hawaii Community College announced that four people have been selected as finalists for the position of chancellor.

The new chancellor will replace Rockne Freitas, who moved to the University of Hawaii system in July  is now vice president for student affairs and university/community relations.

The finalists will participate in campus visits and public forums in Hilo and West Hawaii on Tuesday and Wednesday.

They are:

>> Daniel A. Bain, president of Independence Community College in Independence, Kan.

>> Alexander Capdeville, a professor in the adult and higher education graduate program at Montana State University.

>> Kathleen Curphy, a doctoral degree candidate who has been provost for Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

>> Noreen Yamane, interim chancellor of Hawaii Community College since July 2010. Prior to that she was HCC interim vice chancellor for academic affairs.

The public is invited to open forums for the candidates, Tuesday at HCC’s Hilo campus in the Kaneikeao Building and Wednesday at the West Hawaii’s campus’s culinary courtyard.

On Tuesday, Capdeville will appear at noon, Curphy at 1 p.m., Bain at 2 p.m. and Yamane at 3 p.m. On Wednesday, Capdeville will appear at 9 a.m., Curphy at 10 a.m., Yamane at 11 a.m. and Bain at noon.
