Man selling newspapers hit by pickup truck in Kailua
A 62-year-old newspaper vendor on Kalanianaole Highway was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition after he was hit by a pickup truck near the Kailua Road intersection yesterday.
The driver of the maroon 2006 Nissan Titan, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.
The accident happened at about 5:15 p.m. in far left lane in the west-bound direction of the highway. Police said the truck hit the man who was partly in the roadway selling newspapers.
The truck then jumped the median into the shrubbery and overturned.
Police said the driver was wearing a seat belt and it is unknown if speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
