At least three University of Hawaii football games will be shown on ESPN networks this season, Western Athletic Conference officials said yesterday.

In addition to the Oct. 14 game at San Jose State, which was moved to a Friday night slot to accommodate ESPN, UH regular-season home bookend games with Colorado (Sept. 3) and Brigham Young (Dec. 3) will be carried by one of the ESPN platforms, officials said.

The San Jose State game, which is the Spartans’ homecoming, will kick off at 3 p.m. Hawaii time, UH and the conference said. It had originally been scheduled as a Saturday (Oct. 15) game. As such the Spartans will receive a $50,000 "inconvenience fee" from the WAC. UH, as the visitor, will not receive a payment.

The game will mark almost four years to the day the memorable 2007 game in which quarterback Colt Brennan guided the Warriors to a 42-35 overtime victory on national television. Current UH assistant coach Dick Tomey was the Spartans’ head coach for that one.

Although the game with the Spartans will be a second consecutive road game for UH, an open date will give the Warriors 13 days between playing at Louisiana Tech and San Jose State.

ESPN had reportedly been considering the Fresno State-Utah State game before deciding upon UH-San Jose State.

The WAC and UH are apparently waiting for ESPN to confirm kickoff times before officially announcing plans to show the Colorado and BYU games.

In addition, UH’s Nov. 12 game at Nevada or Nov. 19 game against Fresno State could be picked up by ESPNU on 12 days notice similar to what happened in 2010 when the UH-Boise State game was a late addition.

The Pac-12 is expected to announce this summer whether one of its TV partners will carry the Sept. 10 game at Washington.
