Hall of Honor taking applications
The Hawaii High School Hall of Honor program is accepting applications for its 2011 class of inductees.
Twelve senior student-athletes will be inducted after a selection process May 14 and 15 by a 14-person committee of athletic directors, administrators, coaches and members of the media.
The formal induction will take place at a June 5 Hall of Honor awards banquet at the Sheraton Waikiki. The program, originally known as the Nissan Hall of Honor, is now in its 29th year.
Selection criteria is based primarily on athletic achievement, with character, academic record and community service also taken into consideration.

All applications and supporting material must be sent to the HHSAA office at P.O. Box 62029, Honolulu, HI 96839 and postmarked by tomorrow.

UHH splits with Dixie State
Hawaii-Hilo scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to a 4-1 win over Dixie State in the first game of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader yesterday in Hilo.
Nicole Alconcel, Bryanna Hardy and Christina Pedroza each had two hits for the Vulcans (26-12, 19-5), with Pedroza picking up the win by holding the Red Storm scoreless over 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Dixie State (33-12, 23-5) banged out 14 hits to take the second game, 7-3, to clinch at least share of the league title.
Wahine sailors take second
The Hawaii women’s sailing team placed second at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference championships that ended Sunday at Santa Barbara, Calif., qualifying for the nationals for the 12th time in the last 14 years.
The Rainbow Wahine finished with 56 points behind Stanford, which had 47 points and won the regatta for the seventh straight time.
Hannah Tuson-Turner and Hanne Nagatani finished third for the Rainbow Wahine in the A division with 30 points, and Madeline Kennedy and Lani Johnson finished second in the B division with 26 points.
