An accidental fire caused about $50,000 in damage to a recently vacated apartment building in downtown Wahiawa early this morning, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the two-story walkup at Kilani Avenue and Westervelt Street about 2:24 a.m., said fire Capt. Robert Main. The fire was reported extinguished at 2:41 a.m.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical short, Main said.
