Search resumes for missing swimmer on Kauai

Coast Guard and Kauai fire rescue personnel are searching for a missing swimmer in waters off Hanakapiai, Kauai. 

At 12:52 p.m. Thursday a male tourist believed to be in his 50s, was swimming off Hanakapiai Beach when he ran into trouble, according to the Kauai Fire Department. 

A hiker in the area notified Kee Beach lifeguards of the distressed swimmer. The Kauai Fire Department launched a search until nightfall.

A Coast Guard helicopter searched through the night.

The Kauai Fire Department and a Coast Guard motor life boat rejoined the search Friday morning.
