UH baseball: Gowens leads No. 13 Fresno State over Hawaii

Brennan Gowens hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning to give No. 13 Fresno State a 4-2 victory over Hawaii on Sunday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif.

Jesse Moore hit his first career home run and Kolten Wong singled home Breland Almadova, who tripled in the fifth, to give the Rainbows a 2-1 lead.

Gowens doubled and scored from second base on a wild pitch in the first inning to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.

He came through again in the bottom of the fifth, singling home Pat Hutcheson with two outs to tie the game at 2-2.

Tyler Linehan (3-1) picked up the win, giving up two runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Tyler Garrison allowed only one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his first save.

Zach Gallagher (4-2) tossed a complete game for the Rainbows, giving up nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Hawaii (24-18, 9-2 Western Athletic Conference) is now 1 1/2 games ahead of Fresno State (29-9, 9-5) for the league lead.

Almadova finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored and Wong had two hits and drove in a run for the Rainbows.

Gowens was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, finishing a triple short of the cycle.

The series concludes on Monday at 3:05 p.m.
