Kailua upsets No. 1 Saint Louis 3-2 in the final quarterfinal game of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball Championships at Les Murakami Stadium.
An early upset in which Baldwin beat Mid-Pacific 2-1 means no Interscholastic League of Honolulu team remains in the championship round. Punahou had won the previous seven state championships but finished behind Saint Louis and Mid-Pacific in the standings.
Brysen Dafun tossed seven innings of one-run ball, pitching Baldwin to victory over Mid-Pacific in the third quarterfinal game yesterday.
Neither team had an extra-base hit. Brent Nakagawa scored the eventual winning run on an infield single when Branden Kaupe beat the force-out throw at second.
Earlier on Thursday, Moanalua rapped out 18 hits en route to a 17-9 victory over Hilo in the another quarterfinal.
Bronson Shim batted 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three batted in. Kamalu Kamoku also had three hits, three runs and two batted in.
In the first quarterfinal, Troy Barboza Scanlan doubled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third and Tyler Tokunaga tripled in two in the bottom of the sixth in Pearl City’s 5-2 win over Waiakea.
