A man who went missing last week while swimming off Kauai’s north shore was identified as Vladimir Horak, 63, of the Czech Republic. Kauai County announced the identity Wednesday.
Horak was swimming with friends in waters off of Hanakapiai and was reported missing by a hiker just before 1 p.m. on April 28.
The Kauai Fire Department, Police Department and the Coast Guard conducted sea-based and aerial searches for Horak last Thursday and Friday. The search was scaled back to aerial only by Friday afternoon, and continued Saturday until 11:45 a.m., when it was ended.
