Aqua gives birth to a discount

President Barack Obama showed the world his long-form birth certificate, and a new hotel promotion was born.

The Aqua Hotels & Resorts is celebrating "the end of the national birth certificate nightmare" by giving a 15 percent discount to guests who show their own birth records when they check into an Aqua hotel.

The promotion ends on Obama’s birthday, Aug. 4, and is good at hotels that Aqua manages in Waikiki, Maui, Kauai and Molokai.

Pu‘uhonua marks a golden year

Honaunau, Hawaii » Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau Hawaiian National Historical Park will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a cultural festival, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24 to 26.

The park, formerly called the City of Refuge, will hold demonstrations of Hawaiian activities, including net fishing, a hukilau, weaving, food preparation, canoe rides, lei making and more.
