LAS VEGAS >> British singer Rod Stewart plans to start a two-year residency on the Las Vegas Strip in August.

Caesars Palace officials announced Tuesday that the 66-year-old rocker will begin his greatest-hits show at the casino’s Colosseum arena on Aug. 24.

Stewart is known for songs including "Maggie May," "Hot Legs" and "You’re in My Heart."

Casino officials say tickets for the shows will go on sale Sunday.

Stewart and the company that owns Caesars Palace were once at odds over a cancelled show planned for the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in 2000. A trial judge said Stewart improperly kept a $2 million advance after canceling the show after having throat surgery for thyroid cancer. But a federal appeals court overturned the jury award.
