Samiann "Aloha" Coleman, principal of Leilehua High School, has been named the MetLife /National Association of Secondary School Principals Hawaii High School Principal of the Year.

Hawaii educators honored the state’s top vice principal and high-school principal at a luncheon Sunday.

The Hawaii Association of Secondary School Administrators recognized Samiann "Aloha" Coleman of Leilehua High School as the MetLife/NASSP Hawaii High School Principal of the Year.

Coleman has been the principal at Leilehua High in the Central Oahu District since 2007.

Jacquelyn Davis, of Maui Waena Intermediate School, was also honored as the NASSP/Virco Hawaii State Assistant Principal of the Year. Davis has served as vice principal at Maui Waena for the past five years.

Davis was unable to attend the awards luncheon, which was held at the Hale Koa Hotel on Sunday.

All 50 states recognize a top principal and vice principal each year. The educators are also honored at ceremonies in Washington, D.C.

Coleman will join other high school principals at a banquet for the national awards later this year. Davis and other vice principals were recognized in Washington last month.
