Man arrested in sex enticement case
Officers with the Honolulu Police Department’s Narcotics/Vice Division and the Hawaii Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested a 45-year-old Ahuimanu man yesterday after he allegedly tried to get a 13-year-old girl to meet him for sex.
Police said the man was arrested after he showed up at Zippy’s in Kaneohe, where he had arranged to meet the girl after contacting her with an electronic device.
The man, who has a Hui Iwa Street address, was arrested at the scene and taken to the police cellblock on Alapai Street at about 8:20 a.m. He was released pending an investigation of first-degree electronic enticement of a child.
The task force, part of the attorney general’s office, investigates and prosecutes people who victimize children through the use of computers and the Internet. Joshua Wisch, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office, confirmed that an arrest was made but declined to give details.
State law lists first-degree electronic enticement of a child as a Class B felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Victim, bystanders nab wallet thief
Police arrested an 18-year-old man whose attempt to steal another man’s wallet near Pearlridge Center was foiled with the help of bystanders yesterday.
The victim, 43, was sitting at a bus stop near the shopping mall at about 5:20 p.m. holding his wallet in his right hand when another man snatched it and ran off, police said.
The victim chased the suspect and was able to capture him with the help of two bystanders who also helped detain him.
The suspect, who has no local address, is being held pending a second-degree theft charge.

Woman killed as car strikes motorcycle
A 52-year-old Pahoa man was being held in a Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of negligent homicide and other offenses after the car he was driving struck a motorcycle Wednesday night, killing a woman who was a passenger on the cycle.
Hawaii County police said the 61-year-old woman from Oregon was a passenger on a 1977 Honda motorcycle that was hit by a four-door sedan on Route 130 at Ainaloa Boulevard in Pahoa.
The sedan was traveling west just before 10 p.m. and was turning left onto Ainaloa when it collided with the motorcycle, which was heading east.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide, negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and having no operator’s license and no insurance.
Police said they believe the suspect had been drinking.
The motorcycle operator, a 55-year-old man from New Jersey, and the woman were thrown off the motorcycle. The man was in serious condition in Hilo Medical Center. The woman was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. yesterday. Her name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
2 burglaries lead to theft, other charges
Hawaii County police have charged a man and woman from Kona with theft and other offenses in connection with two burglaries in November at Alii Drive apartments.
Police arrested Brandon Terrance Halmas, 31, Wednesday and Elizabeth Postma, 23, yesterday. Both live in Kailua-Kona.
Halmas was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, theft, burglary and theft of a credit card, as well as unrelated drug charges. His combined bail was set at $104,000.
Postma was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery, identity theft and theft of a credit card. Her bail is $42,000.
