A new reality competition show starts tonight, and a Hawaii-born contestant will be part of the mix. Punahou School graduate Melissa Rapp will be one of 12 featured songwriters participating in Bravo’s "Platinum Hit," hosted by Jewel and featuring lead judge Kara DioGuardi.

Contestants will be given a series of songwriting challenges each episode, writing and performing lyrics from various music genres. The winner will collect a $100,000 cash prize and a publishing and recording deal.

After graduating from Stanford University and getting a corporate job at Google, Rapp decided to pursue being a full-time singer-songwriter and now lives in Los Angeles, according to Bravo. She describes her songwriting style as "soulful/pop." Her website is www.melissarappmusic.com, and her EP "Just Like That" is available from iTunes.

"Platinum Hit" debuts at 7 p.m. today on Bravo.
