Rainbow Wahine track season ends

The track and field season ended for the University of Hawaii on Saturday when none of the five Rainbow Wahine who qualified for the NCAA West preliminary round in Eugene, Ore., advanced to the NCAA outdoor championships.

High jumpers Sarah Saddleton and Samantha Balentine, and discus thrower TeRina Keenan failed to finish in the top 12 Saturday, which would have earned qualification.

Saddleton and Keenan both captured the Western Athletic Conference championship in their events two weeks ago in Honolulu. Last weekend, Saddleton tied for 32nd with a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches, while Keenan finished in 37th with a throw of 148-7. Balentine tied for 17th after clearing 5-7.

All three were competing in their second straight NCAA West prelims.

On Friday, Emma MacCorquodale finished 27th in the hammer throw with a mark of 179-6. MacCorquodale took third in the WAC this year. UH triple jumper Madra Apine was 30th in her event, going 39-5.75. Apine was third in the WAC this year.

Padron fourth in Division III

Damien graduate Jonathan Padron of Occidental College finished fourth in the 100-meter dash last weekend at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships.

Padron finished his season with a 100-meter personal best of 10.55 seconds and is second on Occidental’s all-time list. The school record is 10.53.
