Kalakaua Avenue reopened after police examine suspicious package
Police reopened all but the makai-most lane of Kalakaua Avenue between Liliuokalani and Paoakalani avenues just before 5 p.m. Friday after bomb disposal personnel dealt with a suspicious package, police dispatchers said.
HPD shut down Kalakaua between Liliuokalani and Kapahulu avenues about 3 p.m. to investigate a suspicious package. A section of Kuhio Beach was also closed as a team from HPD’s Specialized Services Division was sent to investigate the scene.
Other details were not immediately available.
Honolulu police evacuated part of Kuhio Beach and shut down Kalakaua Avenue around 3 p.m. as they investigate a suspicious package.
Kalakaua is closed between Liliuokalani and Kapahulu avenues, a police dispatch supervisor said.
A team from HPD’s Specialized Services Division has been sent to the scene.

“We don’t know what’s inside so we’re taking precautions,” a Waikiki officer said.
