Kathy Kohner Zuckerman of Malibu, Calif., who was the inspiration for Gidget, the fictional teenage surfer of novel, movie and television fame, will appear at a luncheon at the ‘Ilima at Leihano retirement community from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort in Ko Olina. Zuckerman’s father, Frederick Kohner, helped launch the surfing craze with his 1957 book "Gidget: The Little Girl with Big Ideas." The event is a fundraiser for the Malama Learning Center in Kapolei.
