Hawaii County Fire Department rescue personnel on a fire helicopter recovered the body of a missing teenage kayaker near the Kapoho-Kumukahi Lighthouse.

The teenager was reported missing and fire responded  in minutes to the 2:20 p.m. call Monday and were on scene at 2:47 p.m.

The fire department sent out two helicopters, and rescue personnel on Chopper 1 found the body of the local male a mile south of Kapoho-Kumukahi Lighthouse.

The teen was found in water about 100 yards offshore, and a rescue swimmer retrieved the body, placed it in a rescue net and brought in by helicopter.
