The Maui Film Festival, slated Wednesday through Sunday in Wailea, again will be sprinkled with stardust. Translation: the Barry Rivers-driven event sure knows how to party hearty, always with a handful of "somebodies" invited.

You import the stars — and hand ’em laurels — and the fans and media follow. Among this year’s luminaries: Andrew Garfield, whose "Social Network" film established him as a big-screen player and who next will appear in red-and-blue tights as "Spider-Man," will receive the festival’s Shining Male Star Award.

Olivia Wilde (Fox’s "House," "Tron: Legacy," the upcoming "Cowboys & Aliens"), Megan Fox ("Transformers," "Jennifer’s Body") and Garrett Hedlund ("Country Strong," "Tron: Legacy") join a growing VIP list of film greats (mature, hot now, future star). Past honorees include the likes of Clint Eastwood, William H. Macy, Adrien Brody, Zac Efron, Claire Daines, Owen Wilson, Tim Burton and William Hurt. You honor ’em, they show up — and the stagings at the Celestial Cinema, Sand Dance Theater and other outdoorsy events means daytime fun in the sun and sea and nocturnal viewing ‘neath a starry canopy. Ah, paradise found. …

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: With "Hawaii Five-0" primed to begin shooting season two here in July, actor Alex O’Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) retreated to his native Australia during his break to visit teenage son Saxon, 14, whom he seldom sees. O’Loughlin became a father when he was 20 (the actor turns 35 on Aug. 24) but has never identified the mother. …

David Nagaishi is the new GM at Il Lupino Trattoria, the Italian restaurant at the Royal Hawaiian Center. You know him from the Ocean House and the Black Orchid. …

At a Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau marketing promo at the Grove in Los Angeles recently, Grammy-winning musician-producer Daniel Ho, who lives in L.A., took the stage with Maui’s Halau Hula o na Pua o Pakipaki. Unbeknownst to all, Ho had a surprise: his pal and partner in Grammy wins Tia Carrere, who sang a few tunes, stealing the hurrahs with photo ops with fans. …

AROUND TOWN: Matt Yee vacationed here before boarding Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas in Vancouver for the next month. He earlier performed on the maiden voyage of the liner’s Allure of the Seas tour, with Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb of the "Today" show. …

With the New Kids on the Block integrating with *N Sync to form NKOTBSB, the ’90s local boy band Brotherhood, produced by Darryl Cuz Anguay, is also transforming. Some guys joined members of the New Generation to form Faceless, then Brownskin. Now brothers Michael and Richie Pelen, Brotherhood originals, tapped singer-composer Dino Robley and singer Devin Nakasone, front men from Chaos and All Left, to reboot Brotherhood.
