Yagi scholarships to 2 UHH players

Hawaii-Hilo senior guard Vince Sanekane (Pahoa ’07) and senior forward Zach Wilde from Snohomish, Wash., have been named recipients of the Coach Jimmy Yagi Basketball Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.

The scholarship was established by Yagi, the former Vulcans coach (1973-85), and his wife, Jean, late last year with a $15,000 gift. It has grown to a $100,000 endowed scholarship.

The intent of the scholarship is to help UHH recruit basketball players who are high academic achievers as well as talented athletes. Donations are still being accepted and can be made payable to: UH Foundation/Coach Yagi Scholarship Endowment and sent to UHH Office of Development, 200 W. Kawili St., Hilo, HI, 96720. Gifts can also be made online at www.uhf.hawaii.edu/YagiScholarship.
