Man apparently drowns in Kailua swim contest
The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified a 47-year-old man who apparently drowned while participating in a swim competition in Kailua Sunday morning as Dave MacKenzie, of Kailua.
Mackenzie was found unresponsive and was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
He is believed to have been competing in the Popoia Flat Island Swim, a 1.6-mile open ocean event held at Kailua Beach.
