"Hawaiian Airlines bags $54M in fees," Star-Advertiser, June 14:
» We are all getting totally screwed by the airlines, but, just to be fair, I am sick and tired of all of the people who carry on more than one bag on the plane. There should be a strict one-bag-per-person rule (excluding purses for women). This way it won’t take so long to get on and off the plane.
» One of the downfalls of baggage fees are passengers bringing large bags and trying to stuff them into overhead bins. Small-kine beefs break out when overhead space runs out.
» If you can’t afford the total cost of travel, you should not be flying. Too many people wanting everything for nothing.
"Foodland gives way to new drugstore," Star-Advertiser, June 14:
» Foodland needs to look for a new site in or near Hawaii Kai to stick around in the neighborhood. It isn’t anyone’s fault they’re closing. Foodland and the shopping center couldn’t come to terms on a new lease. Your lease ends, you’re out. It’s a simple business decision. It’s happening all over Hawaii — just look at Ala Moana Center, where many longtime tenants left rather than relocate somewhere else in the Center because the Center wanted its prime locations for other businesses.
» I think that the property management at Koko Marina shopping center has made a very poor marketing decision. Foodland offers Hawaii Kai residents an alternative to shopping at Safeway as well as convenience to the residents who live closer to the Koko Marina Shopping Center. I have shopped at Foodland for generations and have many fond memories of shopping there with my mother and grandmother as well.
"City collecting illegal fireworks," Star-Advertiser, June 15:
» An amnesty program for illegal fireworks is a good idea. Then only the criminals will have them, so anyone caught with any of the bomb-making materials, etc., can be arrested as a terrorist.
» I wonder if all the confiscated fireworks will end up being "destroyed" by police and their families on July 4th.
» Why should we turn in our fireworks that we purchased with our money? We should be compensated for it. Since we’re not, many plan on disposing of these fireworks the old-fashioned way on July 4th.
» I would turn mine in if I could get a refund for the money I spent. Why should I take a loss for others’ mistakes? Why don’t you allow this year for everyone to blow any remaining fireworks, since none will be on sale anyway?
"CPB bailout to cost taxpayers millions," Star-Advertiser, June 17:
» Banks should be allowed to fail since they have no qualms about foreclosing on homeowners.
» The Feds have an $8 billion profit so what’s the rush in selling the CPB stock? They should just hold on to it and collect dividends (whenever CPB starts this) and/or wait for further price appreciation. The $36 million ain’t gonna help the Feds a whole lot when the deficit is in the trillions.
» If the Treasury is so concerned about getting back its entire principal and dividends, it could wait until the shares increase in value. If the economy improves and the bank continues to show profit, its share value should increase and the Treasury could minimize its losses.
"Stadium panel shown door," Star-Advertiser, June 17:
» The governor is right. We need new and better things for the stadium.
» So what happens if they just say, sorry, not going to quit until my term’s up?
