Phone service was restored to the Kalihi-Palama Health Center at noon today after lines were out of service Monday.

Crew members of Hawaiian Telcom are replacing cable lines that serve the center, at 915 N. King St. Phone service at the health center is provided by Wavecom Solutions, an information and communication technology company that is a customer of Hawaiian Telcom.

Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Kintu said the clinic experienced intermittent phone outages last week. Phone company workers made a temporary fix to cable lines were described to Kintu as “badly degraded,” but the lines went completely down Monday.

Kintu said the clinic also experienced phone outages a year and a half ago but that service was restored within hours. “This is the worst we had it,” he said of this week’s outage.

Doctors treat about 300 patients a day at the health center. Clinic staff used cell phones and laptop computers to contact patients until service was restored.
