Veteran actor Terry O’Quinn, who won an Emmy for his role on the ABC hit “Lost,” will bring his star power to “Hawaii Five-0” when the crime drama launches its second season in September.

O’Quinn will have a recurring role as the Navy SEAL who taught Steve McGarrett all he knows and also served in Vietnam with his father, CBS said Wednesday. His character is described as a man with secrets who may be able to help McGarrett unravel the mystery behind the murder of his parents.

“O’Quinn’s character, who we will meet in the premiere, is going to be a major contributor to our team … because he taught McGarrett everything he knows,” Peter Lenkov, the show’s executive producer, said in a CBS news release.

The 58-year-old O’Quinn was a regular during the entire six-season run of “Lost,” starring as the obsessed and mysterious John Locke. He was nominated three times for a supporting actor Emmy, winning in 2007.

“Five-0” regular Daniel Dae Kim, who also starred with O’Quinn on “Lost,” said the show is lucky to have the actor on board.

“He’s a great actor who brings a sense of professionalism to every project he works on and I’m excited to work with him again,” Kim said in the same CBS release.

O’Quinn’s television credits also include “JAG,” “The X-Files,” “Alias,” “The West Wing,” and “Millennium.”

No exact premiere date has been released.
