Commission keeps current distribution of state Senate seats

The state Reapportionment Commission today voted 8-1 to include military members — including nonresidents — in the population count when setting up election districts.

The action means distribution of Senate seats will stay the same. If the commission had excluded military, the Big Island would have gained a Senate seat at the expense of Oahu.
