Pedestrian killed in Waikiki trolley accident identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 76-year-old woman who died after being hit by a trolley in Waikiki as Setsuko Furuya, of Honolulu.

Police said Furuya was crossing Royal Hawaiian Avenue near Lauula Street in a marked crosswalk Monday night when she was hit by the trolley driven by a 52-year-old man.

Paramedics took Furuya to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition after the 7:35 p.m. accident.

Police said she died at the hospital.
