Honolulu police are investigating the possibility that four Waiawa Community Correctional Facility inmates who escaped Sunday night committed additional criminal acts while on the run earlier this week.

Honolulu police Capt. Les Hite of the Criminal Investigations Division said detectives have received tips from the public suggesting the four men might have committed auto theft, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and theft of property during their time on the lam.

Hite urged the public to contact CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 with any additional information regarding the escape or the men’s time on the loose.

The four men, who were captured within hours of each other just before midnight Tuesday, were charged with second-degree escape. They are being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center and will be arraigned in Circuit Court next week.

Elijah Kea-Kahumoku and Jordan White were arrested at 9:15 p.m. Monday at an apartment building in Wahiawa. David Carvalho and Thomas George were arrested outside the Pagoda Hotel in the Keeaumoku district at about midnight Tuesday.

A Wahiawa woman, 41, was arrested with Kea-Kahumoku and White but was released without charges.

Hite said police are also looking into the possibility that the escapees were aided by others.

The men jumped two fences at Waiawa, a minimum-security facility, to escape sometime before 1:10 a.m. Sunday. If convicted of second-degree escape, the men could serve up to five more years in prison.

Waiawa is a minimum-security facility where inmates are in their last phase of incarceration. All four men had been scheduled to receive parole hearings in the next 18 months, public safety officials said.
