Fair supports Kaneohe programs

For the 36th year, the Makahiki Fun Fair is returning to Kaneohe, from 9 a.m. to noon July 9 at Kaneohe District Park, 45-660 Keaahala Road. The family fun fair will feature carnival games and pool rides, food, prizes and other activities for kids, from toddlers to teens.

Entertainment is provided by the Honolulu Parks and Recreation Summer Fun program and the Kaneohe Lions Club. Proceeds from the fair go to support recreation programs at Kaneohe Complex. For more information, contact Linda Liu at 233-7306.

Muggle memories

No waving of a magic wand will bring back the first-run thrills of the wildly successful movie franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s epic novels, when "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2" is released in theaters July 15. As part of a special package of stories to mark the end of Potter films in the Today section, we’d like to share your memories and feelings about what the books and movies have meant to you. And let us know of any events planned to celebrate (or lament) the final Harry Potter installment. Email your comments of 100 words or less, and photos, to features@staradvertiser.com by July 10.

Richard T. Jones cast as ‘Five-0’ Lt. Gov.

CBS has cast Richard T. Jones, a veteran actor most recently seen in the film "Super 8," to play the part of the lieutenant governor in the second season of "Hawaii Five-0," the network said Friday.

Although the lieutenant governor was never seen in the first season, the character will have to fill in for the late Gov. Pat Jameson — played by Jean Smart — because she was murdered in the season one finale by Wo Fat.

The 39-year-old Jones has had a variety of recurring roles: as James Ellison in the 2009 televison series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," as Aaron Waters in the 2007 series "Girlfriends" and as Bruce Van Exel in the 2005 series "Judging Amy."
