Purse-snatchers flee with victim on hood of car

Police were looking for three people who fled from a purse snatching with a woman hanging onto the hood of their vehicle Sunday night in Waikiki.

The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was sitting on a bench about 8:20 p.m. when two women in their 20s assaulted her and stole her purse, police said. The woman chased the two robbers to a vehicle driven by a man in his 20s.

The woman jumped onto the hood of the vehicle as the man sped off, traveling at a high rate of speed for several blocks before pulling into a driveway.

Witnesses told police they saw all three occupants of the vehicle get out and assault the woman, then get back in the vehicle and drive off in an unknown direction.

Responding officers could not locate the three assailants and opened a second-degree attempted murder and a first-degree robbery case.

The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
