An inmate at the Oahu Community Correctional Center climbed onto the roof of a three-story building and attempted to flee Tuesday morning, state Department of Public Safety officials said.

A tower guard fired a warning shot at the man’s feet after he somehow got out of the building sometime between 8:50 and 9 a.m.

No one was injured.

The pretrial detainee who tried to flee was identified by a Public Safety official as Edson Tarry.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the attempted escape.
