Hearing planned Friday for suspect in shooting
A 43-year-old Mililani man charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder in the shooting of two men in a Mililani Park early Monday morning appeared in Honolulu District Court on Wednesday morning.
Richard P. Silva, who is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, appeared before District Judge Barbara Richardson, who set his preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said the shooting was apparently the result of an argument between acquaintances that started on Sunday night at The Shack restaurant in Mililani.
Silva allegedly challenged two men to a fight at the park. Neighbors heard about five or six shots at about 1:30 a.m.
A 38-year-old man went to the hospital in very serious condition and a 41-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition.
Silva turned himself in at the Wahiawa police substation at about 4 a.m. Monday after the shooting.
Silva has five previous convictions for misdemeanors or violations in Hawaii, including a felony conviction for assault in 1994, according to state records.
